Mavericks was free to download, and Apple has not charged for Mac software since then outside of the legacy Lion and Mountain Lion updates. There is no uninstall - and there are in general no way to undo any patch or upgrade - even between major revisions like 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. Apple began making Mac updates free with the launch of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, which also marked the shift from big cat names to California landmark names. The $19.99 fee dates back to when Apple used to charge for Mac updates. Macs that shipped with Mac OS X Mavericks or later are not compatible with the installer, however. Reboot Mac OS X and hold down the Option key during boot, select Recovery from the boot menu. ![]() ![]() Confirm the partition removal and quit Disk Utility. Under Contents / Shared Support you'll find a file called InstallESD.dmg, drag it to Disk Utilities' sidebar and mount it. Right+click on it and choose Show Package Content from the contextual menu. Select the Mountain Lion partition and click the - button to delete the partition. Go to the Applications folder and find the installer, which should be called Install Mac OSX Lion.app. Click yes and server will be gone for good. It will then ask you to confirm whether you want to delee server.
